UNITAR LAUNCHES SCHOOL OF IT AND HELD POLICY PAPER STAKEHOLDERS DIALOGUE WITH MICROSOFT

Petaling Jaya, 11 July 2023– Much to the delight of students and staff, UNITAR International University (“UNITAR”) has officially launched its School of IT on 11 July 2023. Witnessed at its flagship campus in Kelana Jaya, the marquee event also set the stage for the “UNITAR – Microsoft Policy Paper Stakeholders Dialogue” held in collaboration with Microsoft.

The Policy Paper dialogue highlighted the ethical, social, and economic implications of the rise in artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies, as well as discussing strategies to effectively address any challenges. In tandem with this collaboration, Microsoft is also supporting UNITAR to streamline best practices to exponentially improve its School of IT’s curriculum with today’s modern and industry-driven approaches.

Attended by distinguished guests from the IT industry including Axiata Group Berhad, CyberSecurity Malaysia, MIMOS Berhad, and the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), among others, UNITAR and Microsoft co-hosted a roundtable forum to discuss the following topics:

  • AI and Emerging Technologies and their impact on the Future of Higher Education
  • Producing a policy on AI and emerging technology for Higher Education

During the event, attendees were enlightened on how AI is set to transform the higher education landscape. At the same time, Microsoft highlighted the benefits and challenges of implementing AI and emerging technologies while addressing the future of AI in the education ecosphere.

The second half of the event saw key stakeholders gathering to understand and discuss an aligned curriculum tailored to match the demands of the ever-evolving digital age. Together, feedback and recommendations were welcomed as a constructive method towards sharpening UNITAR’s IT curriculum.
