Why this course

The Diploma in Interior Design programme teaches students the skills to design interior spaces that can be functional and at the same time bring out the aesthetic values of that space. With computer-aided 3D modelling in the studio, students will also learn how to keep up with interior design trends, use digital and manual means to conduct research, and recommend design alterations and renovations that give buildings a new lease of life.

Course information

Programme Entry Requirements 

You must meet the following requirements in order to be considered for entry to the UNITAR Diploma Programme :

  • A pass in SPM with a minimum of three (3) credits in any subject, or its equivalent; OR
  • A pass in UEC with minimum 3Bs; OR
  • A Certificate (Level 3, MQF) in a related field with minimum CGPA of 2.00 or its equivalent; OR
  • A pass in STPM with a minimum of Grade C (GP 2.00) in any subjects, or its equivalent; OR
  • A pass in STAM with a minimum grade of maqbul
  • Pass Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) / Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM) (Level 3 MQF) in related field (Note: UNITAR are to conduct screening and provide necessary guidance specific to the discipline of the programme) skill certificate in Art and Design and pass SPM with minimum 1 credit; OR​
  • Equivalent qualification and / or experience which is recognized by Malaysian Government.

AND

  • Pass an interview OR submission of student’s portfolio determined by the HEP as required.

The Programme Learning Outcomes (PLO) of this programme is to prepare graduates who are able to:

  1. Understands the fundamentals of 2D drawing, drafting, material finishes, principle of Interior design and its history.
  2. Use skills on design technicality on application of materials, 2D and 3D computer-aided skills, building services, furniture designing, interior detailing and specification, and residential space planning.
  3. Do advance spatial planning which includes commercial and institutional project, contractual documentation, and law.
  4. have the chance to participate in various competitions and exhibitions as well as to incorporate various Interior design knowledge based on its history and styles within the local and global contexts.
