The initiative reflects UNITAR’s ongoing commitment to making higher education accessible, affordable, and rewarding for Malaysians from all walks of life, particularly working adults who pursue their studies despite significant personal, financial, and family challenges.

Among the winners was Subashini Sivasankar, a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) student at UNITAR and a Mathematics teacher at Global Art International School, Bangi. Her story is one of resilience, determination, and hope.

Living in Seremban and commuting daily to Bangi, Subashini balances a demanding teaching career, doctoral studies, and family responsibilities. Earlier this year, she experienced the heartbreaking loss of her father, making the unexpected win even more meaningful.

“After losing my father earlier this year, this feels like a special gift from him. It came at a time when my family and I needed something positive in our lives. I feel that somehow, he is still looking after us, and I see that through the blessing of this car,” she said.

For Subashini, the vehicle represents more than just transportation. It symbolises renewed hope and encouragement during a difficult period in her life while easing the demands of her daily commute.

“My colleagues will be looking out for my new car in the school car park tomorrow. They are all excited for me,” she added.

Another winner, Visagen Shanmugam, who is currently in his third semester of the Diploma in Logistics Management at UNITAR Main Campus, relies on his father for transportation to campus. He shared that winning the vehicle would significantly reduce the burden on his family while giving him greater independence in pursuing his education, particularly for his daily commute from his home in Sungai Buloh to Kelana Jaya.

The campaign also recognised Pavitran Gunasekaran, a recently married student who is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Business Management at UUCKL. A police officer by profession, Pavitran began his educational journey with UNITAR last year. As he embarks on this new chapter of life, the vehicle will support his studies, daily responsibilities, and future aspirations while helping him build a stronger foundation for his young family.

According to Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Ir. Dr. Sahol Hamid Abu Bakar, Vice-Chancellor of UNITAR International University, highlighted that the winners reflect the diversity of the university’s student community, from educators and working professionals to young adults building their futures through education.

The event also showcased the impact of the UNITAR Zakat Trust Fund, which has supported more than 200 students since 2024 by providing financial assistance and educational opportunities to deserving students, amounting to RM 120, 000. The ceremony witnessed 21 winners from the UNITAR Zakat Lucky Draw.

As the winners drove home not only cars but also renewed confidence for the future, the event served as a reminder that when opportunity meets determination, extraordinary outcomes are possible.
